Controlled Speed Testing
All speed measurements were taken on a dedicated 1 Gbps connection with no other traffic active. We ran each VPN through 20 test iterations at peak and off-peak hours, across at least three different server regions, then averaged the results. Single-run benchmarks are unreliable – we don't use them.
Privacy Policy Review
We read every privacy policy in full – not just the marketing summary. We check what data is collected at signup, what is retained during a session, and whether the policy has been tested under legal pressure. VPNs with vague or contradictory policies are penalized in our privacy score regardless of their marketing claims.
Leak Testing on Every Install
After installing each VPN we run DNS, WebRTC, and IPv6 leak checks using multiple independent testing tools. Kill switch behavior is verified by forcibly dropping the tunnel mid-session and confirming that traffic is blocked. A VPN that leaks even once during testing cannot score above 8.0 for security.

Re-Tested When Products Change

We focus specifically on VPN performance for desktop PC users on Windows. We do not evaluate mobile-only features, router firmware, or enterprise deployment consoles unless they directly affect the Windows client experience.
