Pros & Cons
Pros
- Outstanding value for money – under $2.50/mo
- WireGuard support across all platforms
- Clean no-logs policy
- Reliable kill switch
- Good performance in speed tests
Cons
- Smaller server network than top-tier VPNs
- Brand is less well-known internationally
Speed Performance
We ran ClownVPN through 20 speed test iterations on a dedicated 1 Gbps connection using the fastest available protocol (WireGuard), tested at peak and off-peak hours across multiple server regions:
ClownVPN showed acceptable speeds for everyday use, though it fell behind top picks in our high-bandwidth test scenarios.
Streaming Performance
ClownVPN performed well in streaming tests, successfully unblocking Netflix US, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video on standard server connections. It does not offer dedicated streaming-labeled servers, so performance can vary by location. In our tests, approximately 80% of server attempts unblocked the target service on the first try. US and UK servers were the most reliable for streaming access.
Gaming
ClownVPN's WireGuard implementation delivers competitive latency for gaming – we measured 17–22ms overhead on nearby servers. The connection was stable across extended gaming sessions with no unexpected drops. The kill switch activates reliably if the VPN connection drops, preventing data exposure. ClownVPN is a functional gaming VPN for users who don't need specialty gaming server labeling.
Security & Encryption
ClownVPN uses WireGuard as its primary protocol. All connections are protected with AES-256-GCM encryption. The kill switch cut all traffic within 1–2 seconds of disconnection in our tests, and DNS leak checks via DNS leak testing tools returned clean results on all servers tested.
ClownVPN uses AES-256-GCM encryption and supports WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2 protocols. DNS leak protection is enabled by default and confirmed clean in all our tests. WebRTC leak tests returned clean results across tested servers. The kill switch functions reliably on Windows. Multi-hop routing is not currently available.
Supported protocols: WireGuardOpenVPNIKEv2
Privacy & Logging Policy
No-logs policy: ClownVPN does not log IP addresses, connection timestamps, session data, or DNS queries. The privacy policy clearly defines what is and is not collected.
ClownVPN maintains a strict no-logs policy covering IP addresses, connection timestamps, session data, and browsing activity. As a newer provider, ClownVPN has not yet published results from an independent third-party audit – something worth watching for as the service matures. The privacy policy is clearly written and accessible.
Apps & Interface
The ClownVPN Windows application is clean and straightforward. A server list, connect button, and settings panel for protocol selection and kill switch configuration cover the core functionality. The interface prioritizes simplicity over feature depth, making it easy to get connected quickly. Setup took under three minutes in our testing. Native apps are available for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux.
Supported platforms: WindowsmacOSiOSAndroidLinux
Pricing & Plans
| Plan | Price | Devices |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Free | Unlimited |
| Best Value | Free | Unlimited |
All paid plans include a money-back guarantee. The longer-term plans offer the best per-month value.
Limitations
ClownVPN's server network (800+ servers in 55+ countries) is smaller than the major providers. An independent privacy audit has not yet been published. Advanced features like double VPN, browser extensions, or ad/malware blocking are not currently offered. As a newer service, the brand lacks the long-term trust record of established providers.
Our Verdict
ClownVPN: Good VPN for PC
ClownVPN is a strong choice for budget-conscious users who want reliable, private VPN performance without the premium price tag. It covers the essentials well and undercuts most of its competition on annual pricing.
